Story
Ever since her diagnosis with Stage 4 Bowel Cancer in 2018, the Royal Marsden Hospital has had a critical role in both mine and Lizzie's lives.
Following Lizzie's sad passing in November 2023 I am determined to give back so that the patients who experience a similar journey to ours can continue to be offered the most up-to-date treatments and benefit from continued life saving research.
This year's challenge involves more time spent on two wheels rather than two feet, as i'll be tackling the "Moor to Sea Challenge" event; a 100km cycle sportive event in Dartmoor which includes a eye-watering 1800m of elevation gain! This will be more than double the elevation gain on the London to Brighton cycle that I took on in 2024 (with an extra 10k of distance), and a third more elevation than the Ride London I took on in 2022 (but that was over 160km!). So suffice to say for a cyclist who doesnt enjoy uphills, this will be a challenge.
But it will be worth it to raise valuable funds for a world-leading cancer hospital that always provided us with expert and compassionate care. This challenge will also have a further meaning for me having lost my Mum to Stage 4 Bowel Cancer in March 2026, after a short battle against the illness. Whilst my Mum was not treated at the Royal Marsden, I know any funds I raise will go towards helping many people like her and Lizzie.
On the journey to the Dartmoor event, I will be taking on a few training events so I will post updates to this page (along with my social media).
It is my intention that the money raised goes towards specific colorectal research and surgeries, as was Lizzie's wish.
