24 different events in 2024

24 events in 2024
Ever since her diganosis with Stage 4 Bowel Cancer in 2018, the Royal Marsden Hospital has had a critical role in both of our lives. We were always grateful of being treated at a world-leading cancer hospital that always provided us with expert and compassionate care.
Following Lizzie's sad passing in November 2023 I am determined to give back so that the patients who experience a similar journey to ours can continue to be offered the most up-to-date treatments and benefit from continued life saving research. It is my intention that the money raised goes towards specific colorectal research and surgeries.
In order to honour Lizzie's incredible legacy, her fighting spirit & her all-round warmth & determination to keep going I've decided to complete 24 different events in 2024!
The planned events will take in a combination of runs, cycles, swims and stitching them all together in triathlon form. To give it the challenge element, I've put in place a few guidelines for myself, namely:
- any run only event needs to be a 10km or longer;
- an event needs to be a race or mass participation event; &
- parkruns do not count towards the event total (as these are a run, not a race!)
As things stand, the events include:
- a 15 mile point to point race across London, 4 half marathons (including a point to point trail race), 2 10 mile races & 5 10kms;
- 1 Middle distance triathlon, 1 Standard distance triathlon & 2 Sprint distance triathlon; and
- the London to Brighton cycle event
For a list of the target events, they are hopefully viewable in the following Google sheet https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1FNGN3TGuQOm5WWqcRSZPnLeUs3iFOxEPdZxWm7mnh7E/edit?usp=drivesdk
The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity raises money solely to support The Royal Marsden, a world-leading cancer centre. From funding state-of-the-art equipment and groundbreaking research, to creating the very best patient environments, we will never stop looking for ways to improve the lives of people affected by cancer.
