Story
Oscar is a happy, cheeky and bubbly 3 year old, but unfortunately was diagnosed as being deaf from a baby. Recently, as a result of some further testing his parents received the news that he has a rare genetic condition called Ushers Syndrome. Ushers Syndrome is the cause of his deafness but it also means that sadly as Oscar approaches his teenage years he will also begin to lose his sight, unless a cure can be found.
As a parent myself I cannot imagine how difficult this news must be for Oscar's parents. They are close friends of ours and we want to support them in any way possible. That's why I am running the Beachy Head Marathon (one of the most challenging in the world) on October 21st for Cure Ushers UK - a charity dedicated to finding a cure for this rare condition and supporting families who are affected.
Oscar is the most wonderful little boy and he has taught us all that life goes on. He is the strongest, most resilient, cheeky, happy and fiercely independent little boy we know. These qualities are what sets him apart and will ensure he leads life to the fullest even in the most challenging times ahead.
A cure for Ushers Syndrome is within reach with lots of research into gene therapy and stem cell therapy. Please support me in this marathon run to raise awareness of this rare condition and bring us closer to finding a cure for Ushers Syndrome.
