My first (and last) GNR is complete! I finished in 2 hours 22 minutes and am bruised, battered and blistered but thank you so much for all the incredible donations that made the pain worthwhile. This was for you Mum ❤️

Thank you especially to my amazing wife Ashleigh, Emily and Bill who supported me along the route. The incredible Geordie and North East support kept me going during those inclines when I felt like I was running in treacle.

I have a very personal reason for supporting Marie Curie. My amazing late mother, Jane Hughes, was a Nursing Sister in the Marie Curie Hospice in Woolton, Liverpool for a number of years. Despite looking after her 3 children, she still managed to work 3 full nights each week, doing a job she truly loved. We lost her far too early to metastatic breast cancer and, as a family, were devastated that such a caring and amazing lady never got to enjoy a relaxing retirement. Life can be so unfair. She spent her last days being nursed in the very same Hospice that she spent so many hours working in and the care and compassion shown by all the staff will never be forgotten. I confess that I'm not a runner and it has just never appealed to me. However, there comes a time when the mission is so much more important than the pain and I could not think of a more worthy cause. Please feel free to support my journey if you are able.
