Story
The staff at Holy Cross will be running/ walking the Sutton Fun Run route to raise vital funds for the Young at Heart children's charity. This charity has provided lots of support for one of our Holy Cross family and we want to give something back.
Samuel is a lovely lad in our school who was born with an unbalanced atrioventricular septal defect with hypoplastic left ventricle and common arterial trunk with type-B interrupted arch. For Samuel this is a life-long condition and this charity does vital work to support him and his family
The charity founded in 1982, offers help and support to families of babies and children diagnosed with heart defects. All these children and their families have spent many weeks/months in hospital undergoing major heart surgery. Some children have had numerous operations throughout their short lives. Sadly, some do not survive and for others their only hope is a heart transplant.
Young at Heart provides a critical support line and network with regular ward visits, telephone support line and parents social forum groups, for parents during their time in hospital with their sick child but also when at home. They work closely with the Heart Unit at the Birmingham Children’s Hospital but receive no funding from them.
The charity aims to bring the families together at social events, where they can meet with other families, share experiences and the children make new friends. The children love these social events, they have been through a lot and enjoy being with other children who also have 'special hearts'.
We will do the hard miles and we would appreciate any donations you can make.
