Story
After 10 years as a volunteer with Exmoor Search & Rescue, I thought it was time to celebrate in a completely sensible and relaxing way… so naturally, I decided to cycle 100 miles. 🚴♂️
Over the past decade, I’ve been part of an incredible team responding to callouts at all hours, in all weather, across some of the toughest terrain around. It’s involved long nights, sore legs, questionable navigation in the dark—and plenty of moments that remind you just how important this service is.
Search & Rescue is entirely voluntary, and everything we do depends on public support. From specialist equipment to training, it simply wouldn’t be possible without donations.
So to mark 10 years (and to put my legs through something almost as challenging as a night on Exmoor), I’ll be cycling 100 miles from Topsham Rugby Club in Exeter, across Exmoor, and back again. Hills will be climbed, snacks will be consumed, and there’s a very real chance I’ll question my life choices somewhere around mile 70.
This challenge is my way of saying thank you—to the team, to the community, and to everyone who supports what we do.
If you can spare anything at all, it will go directly towards helping the team continue to save lives and support those in need.
Thank you for your support—and wish me luck… I might need it!
