Story

As many of you will know, my wife and I suffered an ectopic pregnancy in September 2016 with what would have been our first child. The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust was a big support to my wife during this hard period of time: my wife could have lost her life if she had not gone to the hospital when she did. Since then, we have been luckily enough to go on and have three beautiful children. I am running for the charity again because it is still very close to my heart, and I want to raise awareness of something that not many know about. I have run the London marathon before in 2017; it was for this great charity and I achieved a time of 4 hours, 22 minutes. I would love to beat this time next year (at least by a minute) and hopefully not suffer an injury or lose my big toe nail, like last time.

My wife's story

I openly talk about ectopic pregnancy. My first pregnancy was ectopic, resulting in emergency surgery, bleeding internally and loosing my right fallopian tube. I had never even heard of an ectopic pregnancy until about an hour before I went to surgery.

Post op, everything settled and I was left with so many questions, what next, would it happen again, would my body fail and my husband and I not be able to have children. I rung the ectopic pregnancy trust and was given the facts..10% chance of reoccurrence, 90% remaining fertility, 25% of subsequent pregnancies are from the ovary not attached. The ectopic pregnancy trust put me in touch with an amazing lady who too had been through the same, the shining light when I asked if she any other children since was when she put me on speaker to hear her son playing. The ectopic pregnancy trust gave me the strength to continue. The worry has carried on throughout my motherhood journey, that 2 week wait after a positive pregnancy test to find out if your baby is in the right spot is crippling.

I’d also like to add that this charity was set up by an amazing lady who sadly found her best friend dead on the kitchen floor from internal bleeding due to an ectopic pregnancy. The first hospital I presented at turned me away with my initial symptoms. I’m so unbelievably lucky to be here ❤️ please dig deep and get my husband off the sofa for a cause so important to us ❤️❤️❤️

Anything you could spare would be gratefully appreciated.

The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust strives to provide information, education and support to those affected by early pregnancy complications and to the health professionals who care for them. Ectopic pregnancy is a common, life-threatening condition that is the leading cause of maternal death in the first trimester of early pregnancy. The condition affects around 1 in 80 pregnancies in the UK and occurs when an embryo grows outside of the womb. The EPT believes that the deaths and trauma associated with ectopic pregnancy should be prevented. We seek to relieve the distress associated with the experience and provide ongoing support through their treatment and beyond.

Please support our passionate runners who will be training hard to pound the streets of London raising crucial funds and awareness for ectopic pregnancies.
