Story
On Tuesday 3rd December 2002, I met Vicky at the Crescent in Ilkley. I knew immediately "she was the one!". We were married in 2004 and would become parents to Anna in 2006 and Zach in 2009. Meeting Vicky was the best thing that ever happened to me.
On Monday 4th December 2023, Vicky was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and our lives turned upside down in an instant.
Vicky's treatment is aimed at cure and started in January 2024 and comprises of 6 months of chemotherapy, 12 months of immunotherapy, surgery and finally radiotherapy. She is being treated at St James’s University Hospital in Leeds and her care so far has been exemplary.
Shortly after I met Vicky in 2002, when I was much younger and fitter, I completed the Yorkshire 3 Peaks between Christmas and New Years. It remains one of the most miserable days of my life and I vowed never to do it again! Seeing Vicky be so brave and courageous as she tackles her breast cancer inspired me to attempt it again but this time with family and friends and to raise funds for a cancer-related charity.
Vicky and I have chosen to support Maggie’s, a UK charity that provides support for those affected by cancer. Maggie’s Yorkshire is located at SJUH and I have taken advantage of their kindness already.
Incredibly, one of our close friends is a trustee of the Yorkshire Property Charitable Trust and they have agreed to match fund anything we raise on our walk! So £1 pound given means £2 for Maggie's!
What if I fall?" Oh but my darling, What if you fly?
