Montane Spine Challenger MRT North for Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team

Andrew Pearson is raising money for Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team
The Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team is a totally voluntary organisation. It exists to help save lives and assist injured and distressed people in Cleveland and the Western areas of North York Moors. In the 50+ years of its existence the Team has been involved in well over 1000 incidents.

Story

Last year I completed the Montane Spine Challenger South MRT race - 110 miles from Edale in the Peak District to Hardraw in the Yorkshire Dales.

On June 14th I will be taking on the North section - a 160 mile event from Hardraw to Kirk Yetholm. Last year was tough and I was glad to finish in a respectable 35 and a half hours. This year I will give the challenge my best shot with the aim of getting as close to Kirk Yetholm as I can!

The Team was established in 1965 and normally has around 45 – 50 Search and Rescue Team Members (including probationers) who are on call 24-hours a day, every day of the year. We also have approximately 20 Support Team members assisting with all aspects of the team but especially fundraising and acting as casualties.

We are all volunteers; we have no paid staff and our services are offered free to anyone who needs them. We are reliant on the generosity of local people and groups to cover the £42,000 it costs to run the Team every year.

We undertake around 60 call outs per annum ranging from rescue calls to searches for lost or despondent members of the public. These call outs can happen any time of the day and night and require a high level of personal commitment as well as support from family members.

Your support is appreciated and will help keep me going!!!!
