My ethos is never losing your inner child.

On 10th April 2025 I set off on a unassisted bike ride from Land End to John O' Groats. The twist is, I am doing it on a 1970's Raleigh Grifter. I don't think this has been done before!

For those of a certain age, this is an iconic kids bike which is super cool, super heavy and so not designed for this activity! hence I am channelling my carefree inner child to even contemplate doing this.

I am 58, consider myself fairly fit and know a thing or two about life's challenges. For this reason I have chosen to support ANDYSMANCLUB.

They do fantastic work supporting blokes #ITSOKAYTOTALK.

I am going to be camping wherever and whenever I stop at the end of each day and hope to complete the 1000 mile journey in less than 3 weeks. (Fingers crossed).

Update - 4 Days to go!!

It’s just a hand full of days before I set off to the South Coast. I am really grateful to GRAHAM & JULIE, WHAT’S MY TIME, chip timing, for the lift.

The next day I will get a train to Penzance and then ride the 10 miles or so to Lands End and the official start. A quick selfie and then retrace my steps and continue on the route North.

I have no overnight stops arranged. I will just find somewhere once I have done enough and it’s ’Wild Camp’ suitable.

Apart from the riding itself, I see my

Main challenges as, keeping the bike serviceable, finding places to Kip, keeping my fluids and nutrition up, working my sat nav (I hate tech!!) and ensuring it and my phone are charged up!!

I am expecting Devon and Cornwall to be tough, looking at the profile, but I am very much looking forward to the adventure.

Each day I hope to send Helen a travel log, and Helen will do the social media updates.

I am hoping the trip will get picked up and hence raise its profile which can only benefit the fundraising and spur me on.
