Andrew's fundraiser for St Teresa's Hospice

Way of the Roses · 6 August 2023
Myself and three friends Pete (Noby) John and Charlie are completing The way of the Roses Cycle route over 3 days it is 170-mile (274 km). Starting from Morecambe Bay, the route winds its way through the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, across the Yorkshire Wolds, and finally ends at Bridlington.
We have organised cycling this amazing route in memory of my beautiful late wife Gill, who passed away on the 8th March 2023 aged 54 from secondary breast cancer after a courageous 6 year battle.
Gill spent her last 4 weeks of life at the remarkable St Teresa's hospice making her one of the longest residing patients to have been cared for by the hospice.
St Teresa's is a truly amazing Hospice with the most caring, compassionate and dedicated staff. The care they provided Gill, myself, our three children and extended family both throughout her time there and after has been beyond anything we could have hoped for. We would not have coped without them and feel honoured that Gill's palliative care was provided by them.
St Teresa's care costs are only partially covered by the NHS and like many Hospices rely heavily on donations to remain open. Therefore I am making it a priority to support them and the services they provide. Palliative care is not something you think about until you have to and unfortunately many of us will have to at some point in life either for ourselves or our loved ones.
Therefore it is crucial that we support our local Hospices to ensure they can remain open and provide their amazing and much needed services for us all when the time comes that we need them.
