Story
I’m running the 2026 London marathon to raise funds for the University Hospitals of Derby & Burton.
My story, in 2024 I did a simple NHS FIT test, which we all get sent after a certain age (google it!) and it highlighted I needed further tests. The follow up endoscopy found a cancer in my bowel. Luckily the test and screening found it early and was operable, with no need for further treatment. The exact reason for the screening program, to discover the common cancer early, treat as quick as possible and save lives. It was a wake up call and made me realise I need to live life to the full and tick off the bucket list. Don’t know where the run a marathon idea came from exactly!, perhaps inspired by seeing it on TV and all the good folk raising funds for so many charities, or the idea I wanted to prove to myself I am getting back to health. Fitness played such a big part it getting my head round diagnosis and healing.
But the main reason, to give something back to the hospital, help other patients and as a thankyou to the NHS staff for the fast efficient service that ultimately saved my life.
I need your support to sponsor me and donate what you can, no matter how small. Every bit counts and we will all need, or have been helped by NHS at some point in ours and families lives.
So thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
