Story
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) - also known as Doctors Without Borders - has confirmed that 15 of its staff members have been killed in Gaza since October 2023 during the ongoing conflict and Israeli occupation of the territory.
MSF is the world’s leading international, independent humanitarian medical aid organisation founded in 1971 in Paris, France, by a group of doctors and journalists. The organisation’s mission is to provide medical care to people affected by conflict, epidemics, disasters, or exclusion from healthcare, regardless of race, religion, or political affiliation.
They work in over 70 countries - in conflict zones, natural disasters and epidemics. They are independent, neutral and impartial. They provide medical care where it's needed most.
MSF operates on the principles of neutrality, impartiality, and independence. It does not take sides in conflicts and bases its interventions purely on medical need. This ensures independence from political or military influence and allows MSF to act solely based on humanitarian need.
MSF’s primary goal is to deliver emergency medical aid to those in crisis, especially in places where health systems are overwhelmed or absent.
• It has 24 operational and partner offices worldwide that coordinate logistics, fundraising, and advocacy.
• Over 45,000 staff members, including doctors, nurses, logistics experts, administrators, and local health workers.
• Most MSF workers are locally hired.
• MSF received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999 for its pioneering humanitarian work and commitment to medical ethics.
