Story
If you live in the Beeston / Chilwell / Attenborough area of Nottingham, you may or may not be aware that we are home to the most fantastic charity...
Operation Orphan, based on Attenborough Lane, was founded by my good friends Brad and Cyrilyn Moore. It all began after a trip to Uganda in 2003, where they dreamed of establishing a charity to help children who have lived through the horror of being orphaned.
Brad had earlier had a life-changing encounter in Moldova whilst on an expedition to build an orphanage. He says: “The experience of seeing children — who once had no hope, no love and no support — find a new life broke my heart and sparked the desire to do my part and take up this cause.”
From the age of nine, Cyrilyn had also felt a deep call to be involved helping orphans and vulnerable children. She spent many years carrying this dream before the time came to realise it.
Finally, in February 2010, Operation Orphan came to life following a key conversation with friends who amazingly agreed to underwrite all of its UK admin costs. It was a real miracle, meaning that 100% of all donations received can go directly to the projects.
Operation Orphan is currently involved in many projects all over the world, including in Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe.
Right now a major area of focus has been Nepal, where Brad and the "Crisis Response Team" have just returned from rescuing and supporting flood victims.
But they do also work much closer to home, for instance through "Forget-me-Notts", supporting at-risk children here in Nottingham and elsewhere in the UK.
