Story
I’m taking on the London to Brighton Bike Ride 2026 and raising funds for British Heart Foundation. After a far too close encounter with my own mortality in December 2025, having rarely been ill, and having a healthy BMI, I was shocked to be told I had 3 blocked coronary arteries and at risk of an imminent heart attack. Thanks to the fantastic treatment I received 10 days later, I realised first hand, the valuable work that the British Heart Foundation does in research and raising awareness of heart and cardiovascular disease.
Many others are not so lucky. My wife lost a very close childhood friend, Tony Lumb, only 6 months before my heart issues. Tony died of a heart attack. They had been friends for 45 years; Tony was godfather to our eldest son, Francis. Tony had previously completed cycle rides for charity, so it is fitting that his godson, Francis, having known the worry of seeing me go through my heart issues, and knowing the pain of losing someone we love to cardiovascular disease, (the world’s biggest killer) is riding with me.
With your support, BHF powers groundbreaking research to save and improve lives.
