Story

In just one week, my dear friend Tim Edwards and I will embark on an extraordinary challenge – participating in the 38th Marathon Des Sables, often hailed as the most demanding self-sufficient foot race on the planet.

We're set to conquer six marathons across six days in the vast Sahara Desert of Morocco.

This marks my second attempt, as I fell short by just one day and 42km in 2017, leaving some unfinished business on the desert sands.

Our cause for this grueling endeavor is to support the Reduce Our Carbon Charitable Foundation, an incredible organization dedicated to providing "Justa" smokeless stoves to low-income families in Nicaragua's rural areas.

These innovative stoves, equipped with a chimney, not only reduce wood consumption by 50% but also significantly cut down on indoor smoke, vastly improving air quality and reducing the risk of respiratory illnesses among families who rely on indoor open fires for cooking.

By making a contribution you're playing a pivotal role in transforming lives and taking a stand for the environment. Every donation is a step towards a healthier, more sustainable future for families in need.

Join us in this mission to make a difference — your support is immensely appreciated.

About the charity

Reduce Our Carbon Charitable Foundations sets up and supports community-led sustainable reforestation projects in Central America. Planting trees and providing smokeless stoves is one of the best ways to combat climate change. It is quick and affordable and will buy additional time for humanity to move to a low-carbon economy and reduce CO2 emissions. Each community forms a project group and each participant commits to planting at least 100 trees (With at least 50% being fruit trees). The agroforestry model focus on harnessing all the benefits of trees, this allows communities to use their land sustainably. Upon completion ROC will also help with the installation of a smokeless stove improving health inequalities and using a more sustainable cooking method. With our model, donors can use the carbon sequestered by the trees & stoves to offset their carbon footprint while at the same time providing direct support to families most impacted by deforestation and climate change.
