Story
I don’t usually do things like this, but this feels important.
Recently, our family, and a family very dear to us, has felt the impact of suicide in a way that’s been difficult to process and hard to ignore. It can be hard to know how to respond in these situations, and after some reflection, I’ve decided to run the Swansea University Half Marathon this June in memory of Matt.
This is a small way of doing something constructive: to honour his life and support better awareness and care around mental health.
Alongside this, I’ve been working with colleagues at Swansea University to embed wellbeing more fully into the curriculum, supporting student mental health in a more proactive and connected way. Experiences like this only reinforce how important that work is.
It’s also a reminder that help is out there, and that we need to become more comfortable talking about things that are difficult, painful, and often left unspoken.
If you’d like to support the cause, I’d be very grateful.
