Story
Motor Neurone Disease is relentless and devastating. For everyone who has been affected, directly or indirectly, it is not something one forgets. The MND Association does fantastic work to progress towards a cure, and every penny gets us closer to fighting it. I truly believe that with their work, one day it will be a disease confined to history.
I wanted to highlight something else with my run. Alongside the MND Association, healthcare professionals, and the individuals with the disease, are some of the most important people in the MND journey. These are the carers and loved ones of those with MND. People who don’t stop working when the doctors go home. People who can’t stop worrying when everyone else goes to sleep. And people who carry with them the feelings of seeing their loved one battle such a devastating disease for the rest of their life.
The person I am running for is my Nana. Her father developed MND, and in the nascent days of understanding the disease, all of that care fell on her shoulders. To be so present in a loved ones battle with such destructive disease is unimaginable, and to have the strength to keep going, day after day, shows a strength and goodness that I do not think many people would be able to muster. My 26 miles will not come anywhere near that, but it will be a tangible reminder of the spirit in endurance that extraordinary people can show for the ones they love.
Please donate. One day MND will be confined to history, but for now we can help out the carers who give everything in the battle against MND.
