I’ve decided to do something deeply sensible and entirely well thought out:

On 23 July 2026, I’m going to stand on the wing of a plane while it flies around.

Yes, outside the plane.

No, I don’t know why this felt like a good idea either.

I’m doing this slightly unhinged act as the part of the Hope House Wing Walkers Team to raise vital funds for Hope House & Ty Gobaith Children’s Hospice (https://www.hopehouse.org.uk/), an incredible charity that supports children with life-limiting conditions and their families. Hope House provides care, comfort, respite, and moments of joy at times when families are facing challenges most of us can’t even imagine.

My fundraising target is a not insignificant £2,000 and it is absolutely my intention to dress up while doing the wing walk. Because if you are going to face 100mph speeds in the air, you might as well do it in costume.

Whilst my challenge will only last a few very loud, very windy minutes, the children and families supported by Hope House & Ty Gobaith deal with far greater challenges every single day. The hospice helps them feel supported, cared for, and never alone, creating precious moments of normality, laughter, and love when they matter most.

If clinging to a plane wing like a human ornament helps Hope House & Ty Gobaith continue their amazing work, then it’s more than worth the nerves, the fear, and whatever my pants look like afterwards.
