My mum believed deeply in the power of quiet kindness, helping others without expecting recognition. After her passing, I heard countless stories about the lives she touched - from bags of knitted baby hats for neonatal wards to neighbors sharing how she quietly supported them. Now, I feel it’s my turn to continue what she started.
In May, I’ll be running 145 miles from London to Birmingham along the Grand Union Canal. Taking around 40 hours, I’ll face exhaustion, pain, doubt and sleep deprivation, which I feel is symbolic of the daily struggles many families endure when battling hunger and hardship.
Last year, 3.12 million food parcels were delivered nationally - almost double the number from five years ago. Without food banks, so many families would face impossible choices between heating their homes and eating, and it was only after my mum passed away that I learned she had relied on food parcels in her final months, something she never shared, likely due to the stigma many silently endure.
Together, I’m hoping we can raise at least £2,000 to support those who need it in Portsmouth. £10 can feed a family of four for 3 days. £25 can provide a single parent with a week’s worth of meals. £50 can stock essential items for multiple families. Every pound makes a huge difference, and every pound is needed.
If you can’t donate, sharing this page with your network is just as meaningful, because every share expands our reach and our impact.
While my run will last 40 hours, the challenges of hunger and hardship are constant for many families. Together, we can help ensure everyone has access to food and no one is left behind.
