Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On 4th June 2025 I will be setting off from Merseyside and cycling to Rome in memory of my niece Ellie Mawdsley who was taken from us too soon, aged only 23.
Ellie was diagnosed in December 2021 with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), a brain cancer that is considered incurable, and she passed away in July 2023.
I am cycling in Ellie's memory and to raise money for the Ellie Mawdsley Foundation, to help find a cure for DIPG and to help families in the awful position of a DIPG diagnosis.
Ellie was a ray of sunshine and I am privileged to take on this challenge in her memory.
You'll be able to follow my progress on Strava day by day and I will do updates here. Also on Instagram @senojydna123. To make things a little more difficult I am not taking the direct route to Rome but instead going via Logrono in Northern Spain where I will be taking a break for 10 days to watch the U24 Ultimate Frisbee World Championships. Then I am back in the saddle to Rome. The rough routes looks like this.
Merseyside to Portsmouth - 266 miles
Caen to Logrono - 657 miles
Logrono to Rome - 1177 miles
A total of 2100 miles and I'm hoping to manage some big cols in the Pyrenees including Col du Tourmalet.
Key Dates
4th June - Leave Merseyside
6th / 7th June - Ferry Portsmouth Caen
18th June - arrive Logrono
29th June - depart Logrono
14th July - arrive Rome
Wish me luck. And remember Ellie x
