Mid Kent Golf Club Captains Charity 2025

Make 2nds Count is dedicated to making people living with secondary breast cancer count. We do this by raising funds to support specialist research into secondary breast cancer, extending and improving the quality of life for patients battling against this treatable yet incurable disease.

Story

My wife Sarah was diagnosed with primary breast cancer in 2020 and after some fairly brutal treatment was given the all clear in 2022. Unfortunately following further issues in 2023 she was given the devastating news that she had Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer (Secondary breast cancer)

Secondary breast cancer is breast cancer which has spread from the breast to other parts of the body. Although secondary breast cancer can be treated, there is no cure. Unlike those living with primary breast cancer, there is no end of treatment, there is no remission.

Sarah was initially told that her life expectancy would be 2-5 years. However following a change from local treatment to an oncologist at Guys Hospital at London she has been given more hope. He tells her at present there is no cure for her cancer however feels the longer he can keep her alive the more likely there is to find a possible cure.

It’s estimated that 35,000 people are currently living with secondary breast cancer in the UK yet only 7% of the National funding for cancer goes towards this incurable disease. Make 2nds Count aim to address this imbalance.
