Story
This event is to raise money for my late grandmother’s charity, The Janice Ann McNaughton (JAM) Foundation. I have learnt about her incredible impact on many lives through stories from my family as well as letters from the individuals that the charity has helped. She dedicated her life to helping the young and vulnerable as a social worker, fuelled by compassion and a desire to improve their lives. Although I never got to meet my grandmother, I continue to be amazed by her everlasting impact and legacy, which is continued through the work of The JAM Foundation.
The Foundation has focused its efforts on providing university bursaries to care leavers and care-experienced young people who wish to become social workers, nurses, paramedics or midwives. We recognise the incredible experience and credibility that they will bring to these vocations. My grandmother was passionate about mentoring and supporting her colleagues. Sadly, she has been deprived of any further opportunity to do that. We hope the Bursaries will be the next best thing!
The impact has been substantial on the lives of individuals helped by the Foundation. It is heartwarming how even a single event can raise enough money for a bursary, which can financially aid an individual through education and truly transform their life to fulfil their potential.
I decided to contribute to the charity’s work by completing a 160ft bungee jump with my brother, Rex, something that I would never have had the courage to do if it had not been for a cause like The JAM Foundation.
It will be on Sunday 28th September 2025 at 2.18pm at Battersea Park. With your help, I hope to reach my target of £3000, which is the cost of one whole bursary. This will not only transform the life of the bursary recipient but the hundreds of children and young people they go on to help throughout their careers!
Thank you
May.
