Andy Mountney’s fundraiser for MPN Voice helping Blood Cancer Patients -SWCP 2026

Andy Mountney is raising money for MPN Voice (Guy's and St Thomas' Charity)

Walking 630 miles to raise funds for Blood Cancer

MPN Voice leads the way in supporting people with rare blood cancers called Myeloproliferative Neoplasms (MPNs), with accurate information and emotional support. We're funding research toward better treatments and one day a cure. Most importantly we offer hope to those affected by MPNs.

We are walking the 630 miles of the South West Coast Path (SWCP) Richard Card and I will be walking the entire distance. Kate is running logistics and will walk as much as possible. Jasper our bordoodle will also be walking when weather and terrain allows.

Three years ago my wife Kate was diagnosed with a Myeloproliferative Neoplasm. This is a rare blood cancer and, in her case, means that her bone marrow produces too many red cells and platelets.

As with any illness, a diagnosis can be daunting, frightening and overwhelming and, with a rare condition, the chances of naturally bumping into someone else going through the same thing is unlikely and accessing quality, understandable information can be difficult.

This is where MPN Voice have been invaluable. They provide support and information to those with MPNs and their families and fund research so that the conditions can be better understood and hopefully cures can be found.

We want to pay back the support that they have provided to us by raising as much money as we can for them.

I have always wanted to undertake a ‘challenging’ walk and this adventure should be just that. The path is 630 miles long, from Minehead in Somerset to South Haven Point in Dorset, with gradients equivalent to climbing Everest 4 times. Roughly the equivalent to walking a half marathon every day for 52 days !

We will be posting regular updates on both Facebook and Instagram which is a challenge in its own way.
