Story
My name is Danny, and I am 51 years old with a learning disability. A couple of years ago, I faced significant challenges when I kept falling over and needed a knee replacement. After the operation, my knee developed sepsis, leading to another surgery to clean and repair it. Although I was making good progress, I fell again and shattered my knee. The surgeons were uncertain if amputation was necessary, but ultimately they decided to place a bar in my knee, which means I can never bend it again.
Following this ordeal, I underwent a kidney infection and was rushed to the hospital where I nearly lost my life. Thankfully, the dedicated team at St George's Hospital saved me, and after two weeks in intensive care, I began to recover slowly with the support of my parents. Despite being told that I would need to use a wheelchair, I was determined to walk again and started using a frame whenever possible.
On April 18th at half-time during an AFC Wimbledon match, I will get out of my wheelchair and race Ivor Heller and Hayden the Womble along the touchline. This personal challenge is not just about me; it's about raising funds for The Paul Strank Charitable Trust. This incredible charity supports many individuals in Merton who are in need of assistance. They also help fund experiences for me and my friends to watch AFC Wimbledon games.
I am hoping to raise £1,000 for this wonderful cause so that they can continue their vital work in our community. Your support means everything to me as we strive together for a brighter future.
