Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I have been selected to represent the Team GB badminton team at the World Transplant Games in August 2025.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of me receiving my liver transplant at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham. To mark it I am hoping to compete in Dresden to raise awareness of the incredible benefits of organ donation and it's ability to save and transform lives.

My transplant saved my life. Having been diagnosed with end stage liver disease I was incredibly lucky to receive a liver transplant in 2015. Since my transplant I have had 10 fantastic years, it has enabled me to spend quality time with my family and friends. The incredible gift of life I received from my organ donor and their family is something I am grateful for every day.

Badminton played a big part in my physical recovery from my transplant. Having not played for nearly 5 years prior to my transplant, it has been a great way to get back into shape. In 2019 I competed for Team GB at our home games in Newcastle and came away with a surprise Gold medal in the singles. It would be such a privilige to be able to compete for a medal again in Dresden.

Athletes have to self-fund their attendance at the games. Your funds will help me to pay for registration fees, accommodation, and travel expenses. Any donation no matter how small would be very much appreciated.

About the World Transplant Games:

Held for the first time in 1978 in Portsmouth, UK, the World Transplant Games has grown into the largest global awareness event celebrating organ donation and transplantation. In 2025, Dresden will host this prestigious event, marking the first time Germany has taken centre stage.

The Games draw over 3,000 participants from 60+ countries, featuring a week-long program of high-energy sports, social events, and cultural activities. It’s a beacon of hope, resilience, and the transformative power of organ donation.

Help make Andy's participation a reality and spread the message about the incredible impact of organ donation. Every contribution, no matter the size, will help Andy in his bid to bring a medal home for Team GB in Dresden!
