Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I am running the Paris marathon on April 13th, looking to raise some money for The Golf Trust. I have posted on socials about this charity in the past and knowing the team behind it, it truly is a wonderful cause.

About The Golf Trust:

The Golf Trust (Registered charity number: 1172134) aims to empower independence through golf.

By delivering structured evidence-based golf programmes with clear objectives that are tailored to each individual and their disability. But golf is just the tool used to bring people together.

The impact of our work goes so much further than just learning to play golf. We are changing people’s lives. We are passionate about using golf to inspire and empower the people we work with to lead happier and healthier lives. Our participants report improved physical and mental health, a greater connectedness to their community, improved social and communication skills leading to better employment opportunities.

We are changing the lives of people from ages 6 - 100 years old who are living with of disabilities that impact their daily life. Using golf, we try to make every day a little easier to manage. Our expertise lives in adapting our golf activities to suit the unique needs of each community we serve, ensuring everyone can participate, regardless of age or ability.

And the question many ask, why golf? Golf is an intergenerational sport - it is one of the only sports that 4 generations of one family can play together. There are so many different formats of golf - not just playing 18 holes around a golf course making it adaptable, inclusive and accessible. It is low impact, it is outside and at its core, it is social. The World Handicap System makes it one of very few sports where disabled and non-disabled people can participate together. So we say back, why not golf?

Our ambitions are

⁃    to have a Paragolfer available within 1 hour of every spinal unit in the UK,

⁃    to train more coaches and volunteers so inclusive sessions are the norm

⁃    to provide more opportunities for disabled people to be active and part of our community.

In 2025, we are fundraising to make these goals a reality!

Before this, the furthest I had run is a 10k, about 10 years ago (I am very much just looking to finish rather than set a time!). The training has challenged me in many ways, not least combining wakeful nights with a newborn with long runs the morning after. It has also highlighted just how fortunate I am, being able to put on a pair of trainers and 2 minutes later being able to run through the Hertfordshire countryside. The people that the Golf Trust support do not have the same luxury which makes their work so important.
