Story
I'm joining #TeamSHC to run the London Marathon 2027 to support my local hospitals!
This year has shown me exactly why Sheffield's NHS hospitals matter. My wife is a local GP, and earlier this year she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She's had life-saving treatment through the Hallamshire and is still being cared for at Weston Park, alongside STH's district nurses — all from people who've been brilliant with her, and with us as a family.
It's not the first time this city's hospitals have been there for us. Both our children were born after treatment at the Jessop Wing. Last year my father-in-law had a stroke and was in expert hands within the hour.
I've called Sheffield home since 2001, and I've never felt prouder of it than I do watching this hospital work.
On a personal note — in 2016 I found running and used it to lose nearly 40kg from my heaviest weight. I've never raised money through running before, and this felt like the right year to change that: to mark my personal journey, and to say thank you to Sheffield Hospitals for everything they've given my family in 2026. You'll find me out training for the marathon at parkrun most Saturday mornings.
