The Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team is a totally voluntary organisation. It exists to help save lives and assist injured and distressed people in Cleveland and the Western areas of North York Moors. In the 50+ years of its existence the Team has been involved in well over 1000 incidents.

Story

On the 14th June 2025 I will be taking part in the Montane Spine MRT Challenger Event. This is an unsupported event from Edale in the Peak District to Hawes in the Yorkshire Dales on the Pennine Way (108 miles).

The "Spine" is a tough endurance event and the organisers kindly offer subsidised race entries to members of Mountain Rescue Teams in recognition of the support they provide along the course.

I have been a member of Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team since 2021and will be raising funds to support the team.

The Team was established in 1965 and normally has around 45 – 50 Search and Rescue Team Members (including probationers) who are on call 24-hours a day, every day of the year. We also have approximately 20 Support Team members assisting with all aspects of the team but especially fundraising and acting as casualties.

We are all volunteers; we have no paid staff and our services are offered free to anyone who needs them. We are reliant on the generosity of local people and groups to cover the £42,000 it costs to run the Team every year.
