Story
It was early summer of last year when Dad, who had become a passionate runner since the Covid-19 lockdowns, signed up to run the Bath half marathon taking place in the following October. Sadly though he was diagnosed with cancer in early September which had spread quickly and could not be cured. He immediately started chemo which had the potential to extend his life by a couple of years and, ever up for a challenge, he wanted to be able to run the Bath half marathon at some point during the time he had left to raise money for Macmillan.
5 weeks later and the day of the half Dad originally signed up for came around, but he was just up the road at Bath hospital being treated for sepsis, after being rushed in a few days prior. The next day he started palliative care and moved to Dorothy House Hospice where he passed away a week later, and 6 weeks after his initial diagnosis.
It was the same day that Dad passed away that we as a wider family decided to sign up to the next Bath half marathon, taking place in March, to run it for Dad and fundraise money for Macmillan as he had wanted to do himself. We haven’t run this distance before and are all working very hard with our training at the moment, which you can see on our strava pages!
We really appreciate any donations that you are able to give to this amazing cause, they provide so much care and support navigating cancer, not just for patients but their families as well.
On behalf of our running team, thanks for all the support, love and encouragement as we take on this challenge for Dad
