3 Kilometer Walk - with the aid of a quad walking stick

Stockport NHS Charity exists to improve the health and wellbeing of patients by delivering services above and beyond ordinary standards. Our aim is to help patients get better quicker, stay well for longer and experience the best possible care along the way.

Story

On Christmas day 2022 I suffered a devastating stroke, leaving me paralysed on the left side, blind to the left and with epilepsy. Before being discharged from hospital, 5 months later, I was told on more than one occasion that I would never be able to walk again. My last four months in hospital were spent on the Stroke Rehabilitation Unit (Ward E1) at Stepping Hill Hospital, Stockport. The care and rehabilitation that I received on the ward by both the clinical and rehab staff was truly fantastic. Equipment and facilities funded by Stockport NHS charity greatly assisted my rehab (both physically and emotionally) for example the gardens, rehab gym equipment and rehab kitchen. Now, after 3 years of very hard rehab work, including learning to walk again, I believe that I am now ready to take on a new challenge and give back to the charity so that they can continue to help ward E1 provide fantastic care and rehab to stroke patients, we have found an indoor venue in Manchester where we would like to do the walk, however it is currently undergoing refurbishment work which is due to be completed in early 2027, if we can confirm that we can use the venue sand once refurbishment work has been completed it is likely that the walk will take place in spring 2027
