Story
Hi guys, thank you for taking the time to check out my page and my next big challenge!
Starting on August 4th, I will be running a return trip from home to Stoke Mandeville Hospital every day for 14 days in aid of BURPS – Baby Unit, Relatives & Parent Support.
The distance? 14 miles... each way. 28 miles every day... for 14 days.
Baby Unit’s Relatives & Parent Support Charity is made up of a group of parents and relatives that have had an ill or premature baby on the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. Their aim is to support the families of the babies on the Unit with advice and information, or simply to offer someone to talk to that understands the difficult situation in which they find themselves.
My wife Hattie and I welcomed Pip into the world 5 weeks earlier than expected, and were greatly supported by the resources provided by BURPS at the time. Yours truly even christened a new sofa bed when we got to spend a few nights rooming in with Pip before we brought her home.
3 years later, we welcomed our second little girl Penny at the expected time, but she still had to spend a brief stint in the NICU for monitoring of a potential breathing issue.
My daily journey will be to mark each day the girls had to spend at Stoke Mandeville - 13 days for Pip, and 1 for Penny. But this time, the journeys will not be with the luxury of a car, but by relentless concrete pounding!
2025 also marks my 10 year running journey, and I can't think of a better way to celebrate it than to raise funds for this incredible charity,
With your donations, we can:
- Financially contribute towards state of the art equipment for the unit
- Fund improvements to facilities for families whilst on the unit
- Help them to provide information, comfort items and other support to families.
I can't wait to share this pretty crazy challenge with you all, but with all of your help and support, I know we can do it!
Thank you,
Andy x
