on 16 October 2026

We support children, and their families, who have been bereaved by suicide. We run the only peer support groups for children bereaved by suicide in the whole of the UK. Alfie's Squad supports children aged 6-17, and their families.

Story

We are a mother and daughter duo, Angela and Kate, taking on Alfie’s Squad’s Race for a Reason 2026 to help support children and young people who have lost a loved one to suicide.

From Friday 16th to Sunday 18th October, we’ll be one of the many teams taking on a unique challenge, using our teamwork, problem-solving skills and determination to work out clues and make our way to secret locations across the country. All while raising important funds and awareness for Alfie’s Squad.

Alfie’s Squad was created by Alfie, who lost his dad to suicide when he was just eight years old. After struggling to find the right support himself, Alfie wanted to create something that could help other children and families facing the same experience.

Since launching in 2023, Alfie’s Squad has supported children and young people aged 6–17 and their families following suicide bereavement, creating safe spaces where young people can build confidence, friendships and connections with others who understand.

The main reason we want to take part is that we both think that Alfie's Squad is such an important and worthwhile charity. We know that it's hard enough to lose a parent at any age but can’t imagine how difficult it must be for a young person to lose a parent to suicide. We may not win the race, but we promise that we will give it our best to raise both funds and awareness of this incredible charity.

Although we have zero map reading ability, no sense of direction and are easily distracted, we do possess some skills that we feel will help us along the way. We can (and will) chat to anyone and are very happy to ask for help when we need it. But mostly no matter what goes wrong on the trip, we guarantee that we’ll see the funny side. After all, don't they makes for the best stories?

So, although our family have said they will be sneaking a tracker into our rucksacks, we are so excited to get started on this adventure!

We would love you to support us by donating to the charity.
