Story

I am undertaking an endurance fundraising challenge that began with running a half marathon every month, not merely for personal achievement, but to ensure that every mile has genuine purpose. Progressing forward, I am now running a marathon each month, continuing to extend both the physical challenge and my commitment to making every step count.

What started as quiet, solitary runs on a treadmill has grown into a journey defined by discipline, resilience, and compassion. With every mile, I am raising vital funds for UHCW Charity, supporting the patients, families, and dedicated NHS colleagues who inspire me every day. This challenge is not simply about crossing finish lines; it is about consistency, perseverance, and giving back to a service that means so much to our community.

My goal is to raise funds for UHCW Charity, which plays a critical role in enhancing care for patients and families across Coventry and Warwickshire. The charity supports essential initiatives beyond what NHS funding alone can provide, including cutting edge medical equipment, improved hospital environments, staff wellbeing initiatives, and most importantly, Research and Development. These contributions help ensure patients receive exceptional care during some of the most challenging moments of their lives.

Running a half marathon each month formed the foundation of this journey. Progressing forward to a marathon every month represents the next stage of this commitment, demanding greater physical endurance and mental resilience, and reflecting my determination to push further in support of this vital cause.

London Marathon Reflection

In all honesty, the London Marathon did not unfold as I had expected or hoped. I was deeply disappointed to sustain an injury partway through the race, particularly as this marathon held significant personal importance for me. The injury represented a major setback. Up to approximately the halfway point, I was feeling strong and running comfortably; however, beyond that stage I had little choice but to walk for much of the remaining distance.

With around three kilometres remaining, I made a conscious decision to push myself and began running again. When I crossed the finish line, I did not immediately realise the race had ended, which I believe reflects the fact that I was not completely exhausted physically. Despite months of dedicated training, I was unable to perform to the standard I had set for myself on the day, and that was difficult to accept.

What truly exceeded all expectations, however, was the support. The atmosphere along the course, the encouragement from the crowds, and the messages of support throughout the race were extraordinary. That support carried me forward and ensured that I never truly felt tired. I was immensely proud to represent UHCW Charity and inspired by the number of fellow charity runners I encountered along the route, each running for a cause close to their heart.

Although the outcome did not meet my personal expectations, the experience itself was profoundly powerful and motivating. It has strengthened my resolve, and I would very much welcome the opportunity to run the London Marathon again in the future.

The Challenge of running a marathon every month (& Ultra Marathon in between) is my way of giving back and making every mile count. Your donation will help fund vital equipment, enhance patient experiences, and support life-changing services.

I’m committed to this journey, and I’d be so grateful for your support. Every step I take is powered by your generosity. Let’s make a difference together.
