Story

Hey everyone! I wanted to share a little bit about my beautiful granddaughter, Ottilie, and why I'm doing something totally crazy!

As some of you may know, Ottilie was born with a cleft palate and something called Pierre Robin Sequence (PRS). PRS is pretty rare (I'd never heard of it!), and it means Ottilie has a recessed chin and tongue along with her cleft. This can make breathing and feeding really challenging, which is why she currently needs a feeding tube for most of her milk.

Seeing Amy and Alex navigate the first week in hospital and learning all about Ottilie's condition was tough, but my little granddaughter is already showing incredible strength and resilience! Her chin will grow forward this year, which will help, and she'll have surgery for her cleft around 13 months.

To show my support for Ottilie and other families like ours, I've decided to do something a bit wild ... I'm Skydiving!! Yep, I'm jumping out of a plane to celebrate my 60th birthday and raise money for CLAPA (Cleft Lip and Palate Association).

CLAPA has been such a vital source of support and information for Amy and Alex, and so many other families affected by cleft conditions. They do truly invaluable work.

What better time to take the leap and share this than during Cleft Lip and Palate Awareness Week?

If you're able to, I would be so grateful for any donation you can spare to help me reach my fundraising goal and support CLAPA's amazing efforts. Every contribution makes a real difference! Thank you!

More about CLAPA

Three babies are born with a cleft lip and/or palate every day in the UK, and they face a 20-year treatment pathway which can continue well into adulthood. The Cleft Lip & Palate Association (CLAPA) is here to make sure no one has to go through this alone.

Every donation will help CLAPA to continue to provide specialist, targeted services to give people affected by cleft the knowledge and emotional support they need, while their UK-wide community brings together people from all walks of life to share experiences and learn to cope.
