NOTDEC Uganda rescues babies whose mothers have died, and other unwanted, abandoned or severely malnourished kids, then loves & cares for them when no-one else can or will. For over 160 children, NOTDEC Uganda is "home" — and a very happy one! We have a purpose built site, run by dedicated staff.

I am Angela and those of you who know me well will know that I am an enthusiastic runner. I am really pleased to be taking part in the London Marathon on 27th April 2025.

I started running 15 years ago when my daughter gave me an entry into a Race for Life for a present for my 60th birthday. I got hooked on running and I’ve now run races over various distances including 13 marathons and I’ve qualified as a running coach with England Athletics.

Alongside running, my husband and I have been supporting a charity called NOTDEC UK which supports motherless or abandoned children in the west of Uganda. I am running the London marathon to help raise as much money as I can for them.

NOTDEC UK currently supports167 children.

They are cared for at NOTDEC Uganda’s purpose-built site until they are 5-6 years old when they are then returned, still sponsored for school fees, to the care of a family member. This is often a father, grandparents, aunts or older siblings.

The families in Western Uganda are very poor. The household is often an extended family of adults and several children. Homes have very few facilities and most have no electricity. They use kerosene lamps for light. This makes it difficult for children to do their homework, has issues for safety, security and the health of the whole family and also impacts the environment.

My aim is to raise sufficient funds to enable twenty roof-mounted solar systems to be installed in the homes of families caring for a NOTDEC child. This will give the families a free, reliable and life-changing source of light.

A simple solar system costs £200 and will provide power for four lights in the house.

Any support you can give will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
