Story
Doddie’s Triple Crown 2026 🚴♂️
Next week (9th March) I will be taking part in Doddie’s Triple Crown Ride, the latest edition of Rob Wainwright’s epic annual cycling challenge, raising vital funds for the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation.
While this is officially a relay, I’m part of the core team. That means we will ride every single mile of the route. No shortcuts. No breaks. Just tarmac, smooth and broken, potholes, relentless hills, and whatever wind, rain, or sleet the UK decides to throw at us in March.
Our mission is to cycle a convoluted 800 mile route from Edinburgh to Dublin, delivering the match ball from Murrayfield to the Aviva Stadium ahead of the Ireland v Scotland Six Nations match.
The Challenge
Mon 9th – Fri 13th March 2026
800 miles in 5 days
The route:
* Day 0: Edinburgh → Melrose (a “bonus” day for the core team)
* Day 1: Melrose → Leeds
* Day 2: Leeds → Gloucester
* Day 3: Gloucester → Pembroke (2.45am ferry to Ireland)
* Day 4: Rosslare → Dublin
Most nights we’ll be crawling into bed around 11pm, only to be back up again at 4:30/5:00am to do it all over again. This is not a cycling holiday. It’s a sleep deprived, physically punishing expedition.
MND is a cruel and terminal illness that slowly takes away a person’s ability to move, speak and breathe, while their mind remains painfully aware of every loss. By choosing to endure an extreme physical and mental challenge, we hope to turn discomfort into hope, but inspiring you to sponson us to raise vital funds to accelerate research towards effective treatments and hopefully a cure.
