Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
12 years ago I started doing a little volunteer work for the Glasgow Childrens Holiday Scheme - helping to clean their holiday caravans at Wemyss Bay at the start and end of each season. They are a small, local charity who provide caravan holidays, activity based breaks and host family holidays; providing a break for children and families living within the Greater Glasgow area who, for one reason or another, are disadvantaged or socially excluded. This may be through poverty, deprivation, ill health, disability or other adverse circumstances including bereavement, mental health problems or domestic abuse.
For many of these children and families it is the only holiday or break they get and can help to provide:
• The opportunity to strengthen families
• The potential to aid positive feelings
• The means to broaden experiences
• The capacity to help children be active
• The ability to develop social interactions and to reduce isolation.
You can read more about the work this small charity does on their website. Please do take the time to look at:

It costs roughly £5000 to maintain a caravan for a year and it is an ongoing challenge to raise sufficient funds to keep the charity going. They are completely reliant on grants and donations, so every penny counts. They are always oversubscribed with applications and especially so during the current cost of living crisis. That is why I am taking part in the 3 Pistes Cycle on the 28th May this year to try and raise some much needed funds for them.
The 3 Pistes Cycle is the highest cycling challenge in the UK, covering 102 miles in one day across the Scottish Highlands, taking in 5 of the 7 highest roads and the ski centres of Glenshee, The Lecht and Cairngorm. If the weather is kind, it will be unpleasant. If the weather is unkind, it will be sheer hell. Depending on the weather and the strength in my legs, I hope to complete the cycle in anything between 8 and 10 hours, hopefully closer to 8!;

The Glasgow Children's Holiday Scheme are a wonderful charity who do so much great work with just two part-time staff and a whole bunch of volunteers. If you think what I'm doing is worthy of a wee donation, then please spare whatever you can and help the Glasgow Children's Holiday Scheme continue the great work they do in helping others more disadvantaged than ourselves.
