John’s TukTuk fundraiser for Sue Ryder

Anita Altham is raising money for Sue Ryder
In memory of Stella Smith

Tuk Tuk run from Ryhall to Hunstanton · 7 August 2026

Sue Ryder is here to make sure everyone approaching the end of their life or living with grief can get the support they need. There is no one size fits all when it comes to how we cope and the help we need, but with our support, no one has to face dying or grief alone. We are there when it matters.

Story

John will drive his distinctive yellow and black TukTuk known as ‘The Wasp’ to Hunstanton and back to boost funds for Thorpe Hall. The charity cared for John’s wife, Stella, while she was suffering with the later stages of cancer. John was so touched by their devotion he pledged to support their work.

Sue Ryder, Thorpe Hall is here to make sure everyone approaching the end of their life or living with grief can access the support they need. There is no ‘one size fits all’ when it comes to how we cope and the help we need, but with Sue Ryder's support, no one has to face dying or grief alone. Thorpe Hall is the only specialist palliative inpatient unit in Peterborough.

Stella, a retired teacher, was a popular figure in Ryhall where she played key roles in the community, serving St John’s Church and the parish council. She passed away in February 2025, age 70.

John aims to set off on his marathon from Ryhall village hall at 9am on Friday 7th August.

He has been told he will be greeted by the mayor of Hunstanton when he arrives at the seaside town in the afternoon.
