Marieke was an inspiration to us all. Her wonderful zest for life, her resilience and fortitude were epitomised by her regular cold water swimming all the year round in Brockwell Lido. Her entrepreneurial spirit and kindness was exemplified when she responded to Covid by setting up Kiki's Kitchen; cooking and delivering fabulous dishes to hungry neighbours.

She died on November 16, 2025, peacefully at home in London. She had amazing support from her husband Bruce and children Rory, Georgia, Tasha, Freya and Maud together with their partners and children.

The family were grateful to the staff of St. Christophers Hospice for all their thoughtful help. I want to recognise the support they gave Marieke in her last months with a challenging 300 mile bike ride from North Cornwall (very hilly) to Camberwell in April....a month after her birthday.

St Christopher’s Hospice exists to promote and provide skilled and compassionate palliative care of the highest quality.

Their vision is of a world in which all dying people and those close to them have access to appropriate care and support, when they need it, wherever they need it and whoever they are. Marieke was determined to die at home and even though they wanted her to come into the hospice for pain management they respected her wish to stay at home.

St Christopher's relies on the generosity of the community, through fundraising campaigns like this, to continue providing their specialist palliative care and familiy care services free of charge.
