Edinburgh Marathon 2025 · 25 May 2025 ·

Each week at least twelve young people in the UK die suddenly as a result of undiagnosed heart conditions. At Cardiac Risk In the Young we aim to save young lives & to help those affected by the sudden cardiac death. We do this by providing support, information & screening those affected.

Story

In November 2023 , our youngest son Calum died of young sudden cardiac death aged 19. Calum was super fit and healthy, and should have run the marathon with his best friend Eoin last year.

This year, Eoin has challenged me to race him in the marathon, and so we have two relay teams racing him instead - "Chasing Baikie for Cal" - Ruaridh, Iain F, Liam and I, and "Chasing Baikie for CRY" - Iain, Jack, Josh and Hayden (Timmy).

Our aim is to raise £7000 to fund a local cardiac screening day in 2026. Please help the 9 of us reach our target so that young people can get screened in our local area.

Every week in the UK at least 12 apparently fit and healthy young people die of undiagnosed cardiac conditions.

With your donation, CRY can reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death (YSCD) by working with cardiologists and family doctors to establish good practice and appropriate screening facilities to promote and protect the cardiac health of our young.

By supporting CRY you will help save young lives from these potentially fatal cardiac conditions.
