Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Mrs. O'Sullivan and other staff and students from the Bennett Memorial Sixth Form are attempting to turn our screens OFF and our lives ON during this Lenten season by taking part in a digital detox.
Instead of giving up the traditional treats like sweets, chocolate or sugary snacks, we would like to make a positive difference in our lives by pledging to give up our phones as much as possible for the 40 day period of Lent in order to raise money for our partner school, Mwanakianga Secondary School in Tanzania.
We all know that too much screen time can negatively affect our mood and our mental health and most of all, drain us of time and energy. Some of us are going to limit or reduce our screen times or pledge to come off social media for some, part or all of Lent. By doing this we are hoping to create positive changes to our daily routine, embrace the time saved by aimless internet scrolling and rediscover the joys of getting outdoors, with the added benefit of providing better educational opportunities in Tanzania for students who relish every opportunity to learn and improve their lives.
Mrs. O'Sullivan is attempting to not look at her phone at all for the entire 40 days to the bemusement of the Sixth Formers who do not believe this is even possible! Thank you in advance to everyone who can sponsor and support us and to all the students who will take on this challenge to prove to themselves that if they can even give up their phone for 24 hours, then it will be possible to do it for even longer to make that positive change when they need it.
