Story
On Saturday 4th July, ten ladies from Haslemere Border Athletic Club will be taking on the Serpent Trail 50k — which seemed like a great idea at the time, but now involves rather a lot of running…
Our team ranges in age from our mid-20s to late 60s, and for some of us this will be by far the longest distance we’ve ever attempted, having never run further than a half marathon before. So this is a huge challenge, and one that has already involved months of training, sore legs, early mornings and plenty of determination.
We each signed up to take on the Serpent Trail 50k for our own reasons — whether that was personal challenge, pushing ourselves out of our comfort zones, or simply seeing if we really could run that far! But after the launch of the Haslemere Border Young Athletes section, and seeing the enthusiasm and energy of the young runners, we decided to use our challenge to raise money for the Haslemere Border Athletics Track Appeal. We want to help create a safe and inspiring place where young athletes in Haslemere can train, build confidence and discover just how much they’re capable of.
Every donation, no matter the size, will make a real difference to the appeal and help support opportunities for young runners for years to come. And if we’re honest, knowing people are backing us will also be a huge help when we’re several hours in, questioning our life choices somewhere out on the trail.
If you’re able to support us, we’d be hugely grateful. Every pound will help the track appeal — and every donation will help carry us one step closer to the finish line.
Thank you so much for your support.

At Haslemere Border Athletics Club, our mission is simple: to give all children the opportunity to learn how to run, whether for fun, fitness or competition.
In May 2026 we are launching Haslemere Border Young Athletes, creating a safe, inclusive and inspiring environment for young people aged 12 and over. The response has already been incredible, with our launch fully booked and a waiting list growing.
We believe running is one of the simplest and most powerful ways to build confidence, resilience and wellbeing. Through structured, enjoyable training, young people develop discipline, mental strength and a lifelong foundation for health and happiness.
However, our current facilities are no longer fit for purpose. To deliver on our mission and support this growing demand, we need to invest in upgrading our track, lighting and overall environment.
Together, we can build a healthier, more confident next generation.
