Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On June 22nd, I will be doing the 10 mile Pink Ribbon Walk in Bakewell - supported by amazing partner Simon 🤍 he'll have to listen to me moan about my knees for ten miles and then for another week afterwards - so please be kind 🤣
Many of you may know that I was diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2019, less than 18 months after losing my dad to lung cancer, my aunty to breast cancer & two weeks after my other aunty was diagnosed with BC
I had what is known as Triple Negative Breast Cancer - which accounts for about 10-15% of all breast cancers.
The term triple-negative breast cancer refers to the fact that the cancer cells don't have estrogen or progesterone receptors (ER or PR) and also don't make any or too much of the protein called HER2
It's because of this aspect that treatment is limited - or at least was when I was undergoing treatment. It's aggressive, one of the most likely to spread and reoccur & usually linked to one of the "cancer genes." Which surprisingly, we don't have.
This year, on March 13th I will be four years NED (no evidence detected)
Not only are their researches delving deep into trying to understand the cause of cancer (there's a department specifically dedicated to studying and understanding TNBC), they're also pumping money in to finding "kinder treatments for breast cancer, that don’t come with devastating side effects and investigating how people affected by breast cancer can be better supported all the way through"
Which is amazing and one of the reasons why Breast Cancer Now is on the top of my list of charities to support.
I am unfortunate enough to know too many people that have lost their lives to this horrible disease, and although I'm still suffering with some of the side effects of treatment now, I'm here, I'm alive, I'm well and I intend to make the most of this second chance at life that I have.
I can not put in to words, how grateful I am to be here today for my children and my family, and thanks to charities like these that are continuously doing the research and providing support where it's actually needed.
I know a lot of people are struggling at the moment, so I would be so so grateful if you could donate even the smallest amount to help me reach my target of £500
Have the most wonderful day
Anna 🤍
