Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

The Charity I am raising money for is Friends of The wisdom Hospice https://fowh.org.uk

Why? They are an amazing Charity that helped my mum and my family when she needed help the most, Battling Cancer.

My reason or my Why? Mmmmm, well many will think and have said I'm mad. Maybe a midlife crisis?? The truth is both, but also this inner voice that has been getting louder in my head to tell me to do it! Challenge myself, do something for me!

A bit about me, I'm 45 (when I actually do the challenge I'll be 46 but we can stick with 45!)

You can normally find me at work, as a dedicated Head Veterinary nurse, walking my dogs Rosie and Jeff or Supporting my husband on one of his many challenges or on my bike!

I have always been sporty. For many many years playing and loving Netball until my knee's and calves gave up on me 5 years ago. I had started cycling a few years prior and grew to love it! I'll be honest it took me a while though. I really wanted to love it but god it was painful! Andy then introduced me to a bike fit, absolute life saver!

For the last few years I have been dealing with some health issues (Fibroid) and last year I had an abdominal hysterectomy to get rid of the bugger. I honestly feel like a weight has been lifted, quite literally! So the timing feels right. I feel fitter then I have ever been, and I have only just started the training!

My drive behind this is my Mum. She was an amazing, beautiful silent force to be reckoned with. With her at the fore front of my mind, I will put everything in to this challenge!

Mum retired from being a Teacher at the age of 65. Teaching was her passion, nurturing children was her passion! On the outside she was firm but fair on the inside she screamed with every fibre to ensure the children she taught could learn through play as well as books! Whether that was a sand pit a puddle or a cooking class!

At the age of 68 she was diagnosed with a rare form of Small Intestinal cancer stage 4 and after a very short battle and chemotherapy we lost her 6 months later.

The charity.. The Friends of the Wisdom hospice were their for mum after the diagnosis to provide a place a way from home where she would go every Friday to have a meal, have her hair done or for natural therapy, Reiki being one of her favourite. In February 2020 mum was admitted to hospital and we were told we had weeks.

Mum wanted to be in the home she loved with the people she loved. In order to do this we need help. The FOWH provided this help guidance and support in the form of their Palliative care team. With their help we were able to keep mum at home, comfortable, surrounded by her family and friends.

So with my Mum in mind and my amazing husband very close by (he will be following me from beginning to end. Giving me much needed encouragement, love and support) the The Challenge is to Ride from Lands End Cornwall to John O'Groats Scotland, on my Bike, taking 9 days to do so with an average of 100 miles per day with https://www.rideacrossbritain.com.

I will be riding with my mums now infamous favourite saying

'There is no such thing a bad weather, just bad choice of clothing'.
