Walking for the Dog Who Doesn’t Walk
Next week, we’ll be taking part in the Edinburgh Kiltwalk to raise funds for ‘The Red Foundation’ Dachshund Rescue Charity.
Our 10-year-old mini dachshund, Poppy, has been paralysed since she was three due to Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD) – a common condition in dachshunds.
Although Poppy lost the use of her back legs, she never lost her sass. After two spinal surgeries, she’s a diva on wheels: zooming around the streets of Bearsden, demanding chicken, and keeping us all on our toes. She might not be able to run around like her big sister Ava, but she rules the roost (and Ava knows it!).
Caring for dogs with IVDD can be challenging but charities like The Red Foundation give dachshunds in need a second chance. They rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome dogs who might otherwise face an uncertain future. And they don’t just help with IVDD, they support dachshunds with all kinds of needs, making sure dachshunds like Poppy (and their humans) get the help they need.
So, while we’ll be doing the walking, Poppy will be doing the cheering and every penny raised will go towards helping dachshunds find safety, love, and maybe even a new sofa to steal…
