Story
This will be Liv's first ever half marathon (because you have to be 17) - and is remarkable because she is so wonky!
Liv was born with an upside down heart and without a left lung. Given just weeks to live, she came home for end of life care, but she defied the odds. Open heart surgery gave her a second chance and she has made the most of it. When Liv went through puberty she developed scoliosis, which, coupled with her abnormal rib and vertebrae set up, means that she can be uncomfortable. Liv doesn't really enjoy running; she finds it hard, but she can, and so she does.
I run a lot because I enjoy it. The Great North Run was my first ever half marathon, 25 years ago. Crossing the finish line with Liv will be a dream come true - we have been lucky, Liv leads a very active and rewarding life. Sadly, for many children with complex medical needs, this is not the case; we have chosen to run for a charity that supports these children and their families - WellChild.
WellChild Childrens Nurses provide essential care and practical support to children and young people requiring long-term or complex care. They play a crucial role in enabling children to leave hospital and be cared for at home.
Please, if you can, sponsor Liv some pennies to give purpose to her pain; I however, will do it for free!
