Story
If you know me, I love a challenge. So what's better than doing it in -30 degrees in the arctic!
In January 2027, a group of us from TMS will be taking part in the Arctic Challenge! An inspiring wilderness endurance challenge, incorporating activities like dog sledding, ice fishing and hiking.
For this challenge, we will be raising money in aid of the Natural Literacy Trust, to help to transform the life stories of children in the most disadvantaged areas of the UK.
Children from the poorest backgrounds shouldn't have their potential cut short before their lives have really begun. On average, children from these backgrounds start school 19 months behind their more privileged peers.
Children without the expected level of literacy skills are held back at every stage of their lives. They are:
- Five times more likely to fail to meet the expected standards in English at age 11
- Four times more likely to be unemployed aged 34
- Three times more likely to have mental health problems as adults
As a previous volunteer with reading charities, children's literacy is an incredibly important cause to me, and I hope by raising money we can make a difference.
Thank you so much for supporting us all on our incredible adventure!
Any donations would be greatly appreciated.
