Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Andrew was ,is, our son who took his life at 26 years old, a week after his birthday, on the 18th Oct 21. He was a big brother and a little brother, my 'lovable pain-in-the-ass' and his fathers right hand man. He was an invaluable asset to the local Mountain Rescue team at Killin and a working Gamekeeper. He loved to be outdoors, spare time was up the nearest Munro, or with a fishing rod or his desire to go back to playing football as much for exercise as for social contact. Like many during the pandemic years it increased peoples social isolation and loneliness, already a problem in all Agricultural sectors where mental health is a major problem.
Andrew had a breakdown but had fantastic support from his local DRs surgery but was let down badly by the wider Mental Health services; understaffed, underfunded, undertrained. He needed much more. The costs us all.
Had we had the links and resources of knowing a charity like Canmore Trust , sadly started for the very same reasons, then we might have had no pain and devastation to carry for the rest of our lives. It has a domino effect on the entire family in one way or another. Living in Ground Zero. There are things he and we will never know, and experiences he and we will never have.
THE CANMORE TRUST;
Suicide Prevention
Working with people to find a safe space.
At The Canmore Trust, we are all about working with people to find a safe space – a space that allows and encourages them to stay in the world, despite all the struggles and difficulties they may be facing right now. We work to prevent suicide – suicide prevention – by influencing Government policies and lobbying for change in all sectors of society.
The Canmore Trust is a charitable company (SC715713). We first registered with OSCR as a charity (SC051511) in January 2022 so we really are the new kids on the block! Our Aims are deliberately far-reaching as we are utterly committed to impacting the suicide community with both suicide prevention and suicide postvention:.
The charitable purposes for which the Trust is established as a legal entity are the advancement of health and the saving of lives and the Trust will fulfil its charitable purpose by working actively in both suicide prevention and in suicide postvention which may include without limitation:
Working with schools, colleges and universities to raise awareness of suicide and to prevent suicide;
Establishing facilities in which individuals challenged by suicide and families affected by suicide can be assisted to rebuild their lives;
Training individuals with “lived experience” of suicide to provide support and assistance to others;
Facilitating a programme of research across UK universities investigating and identifying psychological and physiological risk factors in suicide;
Working across the suicide charities sector to co-ordinate and facilitate a unified approach to funding and action against suicide.
