Edinburgh Kiltwalk 2024 · 15 September 2024 ·

The Junction supports disadvantaged, vulnerable young people aged 12–21 in North East Edinburgh, aiming to improve mental health and wellbeing with free, early intervention services. Young people can then thrive, making informed and positive life choices, benefitting them and their communities.

Story

The Junction is a purpose-built centre in the heart of Leith, that provides health and wellbeing services for some of Edinburgh’s most vulnerable young people (aged 12 – 21). I am a Trustee and Treasurer of this amazing charity and would really appreciate any level of support you feel able to make as I attempt this very long walk (11 miles)!

Young people are facing a growing mental health crisis, exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic, global issues and the cost-of-living crisis. This means demand for CAMHS services has increased significantly in the City of Edinburgh, and upwards of 22% of all CAMHS referrals are rejected.

It is not surprising that within this context, The Junction are experiencing high demand for their services. With long waiting lists within NHS services, young people often have nowhere else to turn for support. This is occurring at a time when overheads are increasing and opportunities to apply for funding are reducing.

Young people say that The Junction services are life changing and lifesaving. Your donation will help to maintain vital services for young people and support the charity to respond to growing demand for mental health and wellbeing support.

Thank you so much!
